Keith Montgomery, DNG CFO, hosts and moderates USAC panel at the 2017 Broadband Communities Summit in Dallas, Texas

Dallas, Texas, May 2, 2017 – Declaration Networks Group CFO, Keith Montgomery, hosted and moderated a Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) panel at the 2017 Broadband Communities Summit.  Sponsored by Broadband Communities, the Summit is a leading conference on broadband technologies for communities across the U.S.

The Broadband Communities Summit attracts broadband system operators, network builders and deployers of all kinds. The conference brings together broadband advocates from across the states to become informed on government programs and pending legislation, industry best practices and connect with other interested parties from local communities, state and federal governments and industry participants.  Many of the Country’s major property owners and real estate developers attend the Summit each year, along with independent telcos and cable companies, municipal and state officials, community leaders and economic development professionals.  In addition, the conference highlights three tracks: Economic Development, Rural Telcom Congress (“RTC”) and Multi-Family Housing.

Montgomery, a Board Member for RTC, worked with the USAC to bring an informative presentation to the lead RTC panel.  The panel was titled, “A Voice from Washington – Connecting Rural America: How the Universal Service Fund is Bringing Broadband to Underserved and Unserved Communities.”  USAC manages an $8B to $10B group of funds providing essential support to schools and libraries, telemedicine programs, Life Line users, rural communities and local providers across America.  http://www.bbcmag.com/2017s/pages/17ruralprogramcommittee.php#a-voice-from-washington

The panel highlighted Mark Sweeny, USAC COO, who provided an overview of the Universal Service Fund programs.  He was followed by the Director of High Cost Program, Habib Simab, who discussed the transition from telecom funding to the Connect America Fund for broadband services.  William Johnson, Director of GIS at USAC, highlighted the importance of mapping broadband coverage and collection of USAC data for the FCC, USAC, providers and impacted communities.  USAC has implemented a HUBB Portal to support their essential mission in matching funding to rural communities and funded projects in the U.S.
